What was the earliest hip hop memory you can recall?
When I was a kid, I bought the Marshall Mathers, LP and when my dad heard what I was listening to, he literally took the CD out of the CD player and crushed it with his bare hands. The following week, I bought it again plus the Slim Shady LP.
What sets you apart from other hip-hop artists in today’s music scene?
I think what sets me apart the most rappers is my acoustic guitar. Not too many hip hop artists are as well-versed on the guitar as I am, and I incorporate its elements quite heavily in my music.
When was it when you realized that rapping was for you?
When I recorded my first demo back in 2013, I did singing and rapping because I liked both. When I played it for my friends they told me that my demo sucked, but the rap parts were cool. That’s when I realized I had a knack for rapping so I wanted to develop that.
Where did your moniker originate, FriskytheRapper?
The name Frisky comes from my friend who we used to call Frisky Troublz. It was his drunk persona. Everytime he got drunk, he would do crazy unpredictable shit, but he was fun, so we called him Frisky Troublz. I like to think my music is fun and full of surprises just like my drunk friend, so I named myself Frisky the Rapper.
Has this Corona Visus interfered with your music push?
The corona virus actually helped me because my latest album was incredibly difficult and expensive to put together, but with studios and musicians out of work, I was able to get great deals to get it done. Plus, I had more free time.
What do you hope new listeners take away from your new “WRITING ON THE WALL“ Album ?
In life, we are always searching for and interpreting clues or signs in the universe to determine how we are going to live our life. Sometimes those signs are helpful, but sometimes those signs will knock you off the correct path if you adhere to them. I wrote “Writing on the Wall” to remind others that when interpreting these clues, you have to trust your gut, and sometimes you have to ignore the signs, ignore the “writing on the wall” to live the life you want to live because no matter where you are in life, there will always be people and signs saying you shouldn’t do something.
Any new music we can expect for early 2021?
I definitely have something in the works, but I am not sure what it is yet. Writing on the Wall is my 3rd album. So I learned that after I get done with a huge project, I go through this weird sad phase where I think what I have done is not good enough so I have to out do myself. So I create a bunch of ideas, but I don’t develop them until the following year.
Where do you see yourself in 5 Years?
Making music and hopefully performing for true fans.
Any advice for new indie teen artists who are considering becoming a rapper?
Develop your style and master your process through trial and error. Everyone has their own style and their own way of making music so it is up to you to figure what yours is so you can master it. And never stop learning. There is so much to learn with regards to music making and the industry.
