Thank you guys for having me back! I definitely appreciate it. I’ve been writing since about 9 or 10 and recording since about 13 or 14 years old. The past five years I’d say I’ve made the most noise and impact with my music through blogs, articles, and bigger collaborations with other artists.
Being from Sacramento, CA, where a lot of Hip Hip greats are from, How important/influential is Sac town to your music career knowing your holding the torch for future Sac Town Hip Hop!
It’s very important to carry the torch for Sacramento being we have the legends such as Brotha Lynch Hung, C-Bo,
X-Raided, and recent newcomers like Mozzy lighting the torch for the city. I just want to be known as one of the greats from my city considering I feel like Sacramento is highly slept on.
Also, how did you get you emcee name?
My Emcee name just comes from my actual name. My last name starts with a G and I wanted to command respect when I got behind the mic. I’m also trying to get to the money so therefore you have Mi$tuh G.
Let’s get right into it, your latest album “G.W.O.“. Please breakdown the creative process behind it? How did you come up with that dope cover art?
This project was completely inspired by life and the current events that have been going on in the world. Covid-19 changed everyone’s life whether big or small, so while I had some downtime I decided to knock out some songs reflecting that. I came up with the cover theme and my OG E-Moe brought it to life.
We notice your style is super original and very creative. Let us know how your style is different than all the rap artists out there!
I appreciate you saying that because it is what I strive for. Being from the 90’s era where you HAD to be different played a huge part in my style and delivery. It might not be as serious in today’s age but I’ll stay true to my roots. Sacramento has been known to have serious spitters as well as choppers with a quicker flow. I like to incorporate my Sacramento roots in my music which might be old to some and new to others. I’ve just always wanted to be as versatile as possible and hop on any tempo beat whether fast or slow. As of late, people really appreciate the chopper style in my music.
How do you go about writing and producing your material? What type of mood are you usually in when making music?
Honestly life helps me create, thats a big inspiration for me. Whenever I’m producing a beat, the sounds usually tell me which direction to go and I write from there. It might be a party sound or maybe even a dark sound. My music is emotional like how we all are.
We noticed you collabed with TWISTED INSANE! That dude right there is a GOAT for sure! How was that experience like to work with such an influential artist like himself.
Yeah forreal shout out to TWISTED INSANE. That’s a collab I’m definitely proud of. I’ve watched his grind the past few years with his BRAINSICK MUZIK label and definitely became a fan of his work. When I made the beat it just had this dark creepy vibe to it and out of that came the song “KREEP”. It was only right that I got a song with one of the GOAT’s with another killer flow. If he ever hears it I hope he likes the song.
How have you been staying busy during the complete worldwide Covid-19 Corona Virus lockdown?
I’ve been staying busy by just making beats, recording, and making GWO. This whole project can be credited to the quarantine. I’m also a college student finishing up my Bachelors Degree at SAC STATE so I’ve been busy with that too.
We have to ask, with all this social discourse and revolt, protesting and rioting, exposed police brutality toward blacks and BLM, how do you feel about this? We would love your perspective on the climate we are living in right now?
My opinion on the police brutality is it’s something that should have been stopped. The Ahmad Arbery, George Floyd, and Breonna Taylor stories are some of the worst atrocities our country has seen and sadly nothing new. Until the country is more outraged over unarmed Americans being killed than some buildings and merchandise being destroyed, this might have to be the new norm of protest. We’ve also had our own peaceful protests and some rioting in Sacramento that put us on a curfew for a couple days. We also had a similar situation here with the police shooting of Stephon Clark a couple of years ago that still hasn’t seen any justice. I’m proud to say I’ve participated in some of these protests recently just to do my part. If anyone wants to know my true true feeling just listen to my song Riot on the project haha.
With this being IndieHipHop.com, we always ask this important question. What is your definition of true “independent hip hop”?
I believe the definition of Independent HipHop is having control over your career. You can make the music you want without influence of label heads. It’s just control of your destiny in this entertainment industry that you can make a living off of. Being independent means no middle man when it comes to album sales, merch, or tours.
